So far my internship this semester has been anything but boring. Going out on shoots, meeting new people, seeing new things and learning all about the technical side of working a camera, putting together packages and interacting with the great people of abc27. This week was no different. On Friday, it was relatively slow because there wasn't much going on other than a small municipal story that one of the reporters was working on.
So as normal, we wait for the reporter to find some leads and get a interviews together so we can head down to the capital building in Harrisburg. With a quick turn to us, the reporter is ready and we run out to the news van because we're already running a bit low on time. We actually got to interview the Auditor General of Pennsylvania - which was awesome - and he is a really great guy. Easy going, honest and straightforward, no double speak or anything like that. After that interview, we run another quick interview with someone else from the capital (not sure exactly who) then we headed back to the station to put the package together.
Since the package wasn't too tough to create and there was no serious editing techniques that needed to go into it, we finished it relatively quickly and that was that. Now onto Sunday:
Sunday night (Monday morning, 12 am - 8 am) was pretty fun actually. We got to visit Hershey Park and do live hits again for the 4-7 am dayside news. We did the live shots on the Hershey Park cabins, which from outside looked tiny, but inside were absolutely fantastic. They were like little houses and were extremely clean and snuggly for family members or couples looking to get away for a weekend. There are three main rooms: the living room (equipped with a TV, couch, cable/DVD player and a kitchen), the master bedroom with a queen sized bed, and the second bedroom, with four beds (two bunk beds). The entire place was gorgeous and the PR person we spoke with was so lighthearted and easy going it made the whole experience that much better.
Also, we had a zookeeper bring in a small, 13-year-old bald eagle to interview that had originally been found almost dead but was rescued by Hershey Park officials. The creature was really magnificent. It was the first time I'd seen a bald eagle in the flesh and although it was relatively small compared to the normal bald eagles people are used to seeing, the experience was amazing. Anyway, that was my week, I hope this is enough!
